Hyundai Key Fob Tips

Hyundai key fob

Any new or relatively recent pre-owned Hyundai vehicle you get in Newport News will come with a Hyundai key fob, so it’s a good idea to learn how to program a Hyundai key fob, how to open a Hyundai key fob, how to change the battery in a Hyundai key fob, and more. Hyundai of Hampton covers Hyundai key fob battery replacement and other essential Hyundai key fob tips below!

Hyundai Key Fob Battery Replacement: Step-by-Step

Before you get to your Hyundai key fob battery replacement, you first need to know how to open a Hyundai key fob. This process can vary by vehicle:

How to Open a Hyundai Key Fob in Newer Models

  1. Press the metal button by the key to remove the metal key.
  2. Insert this key into the tiny opening in the back and then pop open the Hyundai key fob! This is, of course, the first step in learning how to actually change the battery in a Hyundai key fob.

How to Open a Hyundai Key Fob in Older Models

  1. With earlier Hyundai models, there is a simple latch on the side.
  2. Once you find the latch, you can pry the key fob open with a coin or a flathead screwdriver.

How to Change the Hyundai Key Fob Battery: Step-by-Step

  1. Once the key fob is open, gently expose the circuit board. Note how the key fob battery is positioned so you can replace it correctly.
  2. Check the battery to see what kind your key fob uses. Most use the CR2032 type battery. You can find this most anywhere in Suffolk or Norfolk.
  3. Replace the battery, oriented the same way as your old Hyundai key fob battery.
  4. Put the Hyundai key fob back together, placing the metal key in the right place!

How to Program the Hyundai Key Fob

Once you’ve completed the Hyundai key fob battery replacement process, you’ll need to learn how to program the Hyundai key fob. Don’t sweat it, as it’s a pretty simple process! Here’s how to program the Hyundai key fob:

  1. Get inside your Hyundai and close the doors.
  2. Turn the key to the accessory (“ACC”) position on your Hyundai.
  3. Hold both the “unlock” and “open” boxes on your Hyundai key fob.

If this process doesn’t work, make sure you’ve installed the battery correctly. If you have a brand new key fob that wasn’t previously programmed for your Hyundai, you’ll have to get in touch with a service department for help.
